I think it is an interesting journal. But, I need more time to understand it before giving analysis. So here is my analysis and my opinion after read the journal entitled “Politeness in Requests: Some Research Findings Relevant for Intercultural Encounters”. It has been mentioned clearly that the major aim of this journal is to analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests. Especially this is comparing the way of politeness and indirectness by Romanian with English and Hebrew. Actually the same research has been already conducted by Blum Kulka in 1987. So that, the researchers want to know are there any similarities between the answers of the Romanian respondents and those of Blum Kulka’s respondents. They used the Discourse Completion Test (DCT) method to achieve the objective. The method is basically consists in creating a certain situation, where respondents are asked to engage in a conversation about a certain ordinary problem. The research has weakness due to the limits of this research posed by the restricted sample of respondents, as well as by the restrictive situation that contextualizes only certain sociopragmatic aspects. The result of this journal said that Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies employed. However, the current research also points out to the fact that in Romanian we are more likely to encounter conventional indirect polite strategies compared to Hebrew and English. In my opinion, one country and other countries have different way to express politeness request. It is does not matter anyway, because all of the countries have their own way to express it. And we cannot judge the other just because we think it is polite or impolite. Maybe in here is polite to say something that we think polite but in other place maybe it does not polite. So, polite or not is has to be learn before, like I said because all of the countries have their own way to express politeness request. I have already read this journal. I think it's very useful for us as students of IKIP PGRI Semarang. Basically, the purpose of this journal is to to analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests. One of the issues of major concern is the sociolinguistic discourse of politeness.This journal is compare Romanians and other nations. The other nations that mentioned in this journal are British and Hebrew. From this journal we can know how to ask request politely. From lees polite to the most polite way based on the investigation that have done by the researcher. This journal also find out and show any similarities between the answers of the Romanian respondents and those of Blum Kulka’s respondents. This journal not give knowledge completely. It's just give a certain situation and the only one respondent. Just Romanians. So that the reader not get more knowledge. This journal should give more situations and more respondents, even give some complementary data. Every nations have their ways to ask request. Whether it's to be polite or rude. I do believe that Indonesian is more polite than them. It's known as a friendly nation. There are so many languages that used by the people. Firstly, i would like to say thank you because you have given me opportunity to join this forum. You have given me many experiences during joining your class, sir. In my opinion, this is a very good journal, because it is completed with many sources that support the journal. The content is relevant and easy enough to understand. After I have read this kind of journal entitled "POLITENESS IN REQUESTS: SOME RESEARCH FINDINGS RELEVANT FOR INTERCULTURAL ENCOUNTERS" written by Aura Codreanu, PhD, MA, MSc, Regional Department of Defense Resources Management Studies, Brasov, Romania and Alina Debu, MA, Teacher of Romanian language, Fagaras, Romania, firstly I got the aims of the writer in writing the journal. The writer wants to analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests, to find out to what extent politeness and indirectness are viewed as overlapping or mutually excluding categories by Romanians compared to other nationalities, such as the British and the Hebrew, to provide an example of the socio linguistics instruments that can be employed in the investigation of the differences and similarities likely to emerge in intercultural encounters. The strength of the journal is, it has complete explanations in discussing the topic. The journal uses to analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests of Romanian as compared to other nationalities; they are the British and Hebrew. The researcher tried to find out whether Romanians associate politeness with conventional indirectness or they consider non-conventional indirectness as more polite. This research uses DTC method (Discourse Completion Test) consists in creating a certain situation where respondents are asked to engage in a conversation about an ordinary problem. On the journal, the researcher concludes that Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies employed. The current research also points out to the fact that in Romanian we are more likely to encounter conventional indirect polite strategies compared to Hebrew and English. There are words “No body is perfect”, although the journal is very good, but it has a weakness. The researcher only used seven students of Romanian’s students. And i think, in the research seven students as sample are not authentic enough, because as i know based on my lecturer’s explanation, in research, total of sample at least 30. In short,the journal is very useful for language students, because they can get more knowledge from the journal. Hopefully, it can give an inspiration for my friends and me in finishing our final project. Moreover, the journal is an orderly written journal, really good example in study writing a journal. I have read the journal. i think it's very interesting for me. it gives me some informations about analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests. i also found an example of the socio linguistics instrument that can be employed in the investigation of the differences and similarities likely to emerge in intercultural encounters. I was suprised that this article contribute to a research niche neglected so far and hopefully provide a theoretical and practical framework for further investigations into the field of polite requests. S Blum-Kulka politeness represents the interactional balance achieved between two needs; the need for pragmatic clarity and the need to avoid coerciveness. The method is the discourse completion test (DCT). There ae eight types of request strategies used in the research and now i can know the examples. in the survey finding i can know that there are directness scale and politeness scale, the answer provided by the respondents were somewhat similar to the previous choices. in the data analysis i found that only one respondent chose hedged performatives and hints as the answer favored in dealing with the situation given by the researcher. the research findings by focusing only on the first four ost polite utterances they are left, Hedged performative, Query preparatory, Hints, and suggestory formulae. the conclusion of the research,as well as the strategy perceived equally polite and indirect, the other two respondents seem to contradict themselves because there ae differences between what one person uses on a daily basis and what the same person perceives as adquat, acceptable in terms of polite indirect strategies.Polite requests in romanian, english and hebrew, romanian and hebrew the most polite and the most indirect. english introduces a category that they left aside in this reseacrh. different with indonesia that have a lot of culture, each culture have differents ways in polite requests. but it has high politess, so that indonesian are famous with polite person. in the final conclusion Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in term linguistic strategies employed.The questioning was administered in Romanian and the translation tried to be as close as possible to literal meaning af the english expressions. It's like bringing us in a lost island (this forum), tied together and a closed room in order to then we think harder for the solutions (comment) on the problems and all of us settle up together to run away. The purpose of the research was to investigate the connection between politeness and indirectness in the Romanian language compared to other nationalities, such as the British and the Hebrew. the research conducted this study to the seven respondents of Romanians. the findings seem to tell us that there is the same choice between Romanian and Hebrew contradict with English in ranking the strategy types of politeness and indirectness. Thus, the conclusion could be that Romanians are more likely to use conventional indirect strategies than other nationalities. Romanian seems to overlap with Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies. This research also points out to the fact that in Romanian are more likely to encounter conventional indirect polite strategies compared to Hebrew and English. The strength of this study is to be considered overcoming to complete further research in the field of linguistics and pragmatics more specifically of intercultural encounters at the level of linguistic discourse. This study tries to prove the theories while comparing. It is elaborated in ranking strategy from some respondents. The weakness of the survey is the first, this study should be carried out on a larger group of respondents. it would be interesting to look if there are any other respondents favoring hints and hedged performatives as both the most polite and conventionally indirect strategies to be used in a certain context. because however, we cannot claim them unreliable because in our view there may be differences between what one person uses on a daily basis and what the same person perceives as acceptable in terms of polite indirect strategies. the second, this study should be focused on the differences/ similarities between individual choice in applying the polite indirect strategies type and societal and linguistic norms in the certain context while proving about theories. when two languages from different countries are encountered simultaneously will have different perception. one perceives to be more polite in his own way, but it doesn't seem that another one will be able in the same way. each has a choice to use the level of strategies in the real context. First,Analysis the the relationship between indirectness and politeness in request. Second, In order to find out to what extent politeness and indirectness are viewed as over laping or mutually excluding categories by Romanians compared to other nationalities,such as the British and the Hebrew. Third,another inherent goal of the paper is to provide an example of the sociolinguistics instrument than can be employed in the investigation of the differences and similarities likely to emerge in intercultural encounters. in my opinion i can conclude that this Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in term of the linguistic strategies employed. However the current research also point out to the fact in Romanian. The conclusion to be drawn based on the findings and after the data analysis is that while most respondents (i.e. seven) choose the same strategy (i.e. query preparatory) as an individual manner of self expression, as well as a strategy perceived equally polite and indirect, the other two respondents seem to contradict themselves. However, we cannot claim them unreliable because in our view there may be differences between what one person uses on a daily basis and what the same person perceives as adquat, acceptable in terms of polite indirect strategies. we could draw is that Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies employed. However, the current research also points out to the fact that in Romanian we are more likely to encounter conventional indirect polite strategies compared to Hebrew and English. In this respect, we cannot claim though too much originality of the findings. Romanians list the same category either on the seventh or the eighth position on the directness scale, for Hebrew the utterances appear on the sixth position, whereas in English they appear on the fifth position.it's all quietly different with polite request in Indonesia. in our country, if we want to request something, we will do it with the best warmth we have. we will look at the person that we will ask and the smile never lost. There same way in Indonesian, Romanian and Hebrew, but there also many the differences. so, I think all of country in the world have difference ways to say the polite request. One of the major of matters is the emergence in intercultural encounters about the socio-linguistic discourse of politeness. Researchers’ undertaking needs some background to the issue of politeness in requests through indirect strategies, before presenting the research project supporting the aim(s) of this article. For Starting from this theoretical background, the researchers tried to find out whether Romanians associate politeness with conventional indirectness, as Blum Kulka asserts, or they consider non-conventional indirectness as more polite. Moreover, researchers tried to identify if there are any similarities between the answers of the Romanian respondents and those of Blum Kulka’s respondents. In order to attain these objectives, the researchers used the method called “the discourse completion test” (DCT). It should be carried out on a larger group of respondents. Then, what people claim in hypothetical situation usually is not necessarily what they actually say in real situations. Even though this journal has the weakness, it has the important side in showing the politeness through indirect conversation in intercultural situation. It gives us information about the politeness and indirectness in request in the different country, so we know that every place has different way to show their politeness. I think the journal is difficult to understand. Many unfamiliar words that I just find them. Like the eight types of request strategies used in the research. It can make me confused about it, but, it can contribute new vocab also. Based on the journal, we can find significance differences and similarities likely to emerge in intercultural encounters. This journal may contribute niche neglected so far and provide a theoretical and practical framework for further investigations into the field of polite and overlapping or mutually excluding categories by Romanians compared to other nationalities, such as the British and the Hebrew. In my opinion, the strength of the journal are the journal used appropriate method by called discourse completion test because the method can be applied directly to participants coming from different cultural background. The journal has weakness also, it is not effective if the researcher used seven respondents of Rumanians’ students because they were not the native Romanians. The journal should be taken many respondents to get effective result. It is not able to bring out the extended negotiation which commonly occurs in authentic discourse due to the absence of interactions between interlocutors. Thus, a conclusion that we could draw is that Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies employed. Commenting on the journal entitles ‘Politeness in Requests’ I read, let me say that it was all about relationship between indirectness and politeness in requests. It was between Romanians and other nationalities, such as the British and the Hebrew. There are some aims to be achieved by the researcher. The first is to analyze the relationship between indirectness and politeness in request, the second is to find out to what extent politeness and indirectness are viewed as overlapping or mutually excluding categories. The third goal is to provide an example of the sociolinguistics instruments that can be employed in the investigation of the differences and similarities likely to emerge in intercultural encounters. From this article, the reader knew which one of the countries is more polite and the the reader also get the information especially about the politeness and indirectness of those countries. So that, people can take a position if they are in that country. This journal is really good for us as students of English Department because we became know about the comparison of three languages; Rumanian, Hebrew, and British, of which one the most polite of three languages implementing in asking requests. I have read the journal, the title is “Politeness in Requests: Some Research Findings Relevant for Intercultural Encounters Politeness in Requests: Some Research Findings Relevant for Intercultural Encounters”. The context of this journal is very complete and easy to understand. We as no English speaker can understand it clearly. I think the writer tells the problems why he or she research it and she give many resources that make this journal better. As journal as usual the writer makes research first, so we can know that the research it’s true. And in this journal the writer using questionnaire to make the research fact and the reader can trust it. The strength of this journal are the writer using factual data in this research this because the writer make observation to many respondents from Rumanian, English, Hebrew people. Second is the questionnaire are easy to answer. When we are seeing the questionnaire in the appendix, we can know that it’s very easy to understand and to answer. Third is in this journal the writer have many resources and many arguments from the expert of this material. On the other side, there is a weakness from this journal. First there just three country that investigate. In this journal told about politeness in request: research findings relevant for intercultural encounters, so i think there must many countries to investigate. And some of the information are uncompleted like the table, I get a little bit confuse to read the table. According to our country Indonesia that Indonesian people have a culture that they always say something but have another meaning at the same time. Many of Indonesian people using politeness in their words because they think its not polite to told their purpose directly. Control is knowing what is actually happening in comparison to predetermined standards or objectives. Management control is a process of ensuring that organizational activities are going according to the plan. Controlling is a process to observe the running action which is suitable with the plan. According to Henry Fayol Controlling is an examination whether the run smoothly and suitable with the plan or direction. William H Newman said that Controlling is to ensure that the implementation of the action is according to the plan. On this occasion, manager has to check the final product wether it is match to the planning or not. If not match, the manager has to analize what the problems are, so the result can be maximized. Maybe unsuitable planning, maybe the organizational way, or the actuating does not through the target exactly.
The aims of Controlling are: 1. To know whether the work run smoothly or not Manager look around the process a long the work.Wether the work can be run smoothly or not. If not, the manager has to look for the caution. 2. To know whether the use of budget is match to the plan. The manager matches the budget with the plan that was made before. 3. Comparing actual performance to predetermined standards or objectives. The manager matches the result with the standart. 4. To know that organizational activities are going according to the plan. The manager look around the people that is take a part on the job wether they work on their job or not. 5. Correcting any errors After the manager get the mistakes during the process,he ask to the employer to exchange their mistakes, so the result can be better. This journal tells us about the analysis of the relationship between indirectness and politeness in request. The objective of this research is to what extent politeness and indirectness are viewed as overlapping or mutually excluding categories by Romanians compared to other nationalities, such as the British and the Hebrew. In the conclusion the researcher said that Romanian is pretty close to Hebrew in terms of the linguistic strategies employed....the fact that in Romanian we are more likely to encounter conventional indirect polite strategies compared to Hebrew and English.Indonesian also has its level of politeness in communicate with others The journal consist of introduction, theoretical background, research questions, methodology, survey questions and sample description, survey findings, data analysis, research conclusions, polite requests in Romanian, English, and Hebrew, final conclusion, endnotes, references, and appendix.
So the result is Romania is quite close to the Hebrew linguistic terms used strategies . However , the current study also point to the fact that in Romania we are more Likely to face polite Compared with conventional indirect strategy Hebrew and English . Thus , only through such research one can completely cover the scientific way of challenging cross - section of the field of culture , and more specific at the level of intercultural encounter linguistic discourse markers .

# <My Own Opinion> As the Indonesian people may be in my opinion indirect request more appropriate than the politeness. You know that we have learned about CCU (Cross Cultural Understanding) which gives us more knowledge and experience to know, to understand, to through the other culture. Actually we can say that Culture is like an “Ice Berg”, so all people only see from the surface. In the surface of Culture very clearly to see, that is Food, Clothing, and Language. But a lot of people did not see the deepest root or the root from the ice which containing with Communication Style, Beliefs, Attitude, Values, and Perceptions. So, in other word if we’re only think about the politeness itself, we would never realize that our language or our way to say something quite polite for another people (with different culture) or not because the differences of culture is very influence people. On the other hand, if we used the indirectness request or say something may be people more respect with this way and they will try to understand what we talk about. No one can guess the people mood condition and the way how to they understand the sentences by the other people.
